The U-Truck mates the rich engineering prowess of Ashok Leyland with world class aggregates from Meritor. It is designed to offer the best in terms of load carrying capability with higher speeds and improved reliability. The truck was designed with an environmental focus on fuel efficiency and carbon footprint.
Meritor successfully took up the challenge to be a part of this world class project and will be providing axles for 100 per cent of the models in the U-Truck platform. A wide spectrum of axles ranging from single reduction solo, tandems to hub reduction axles have been offered for different applications on the U-Truck.
To meet the high standards set by the U-Truck program, Meritor came up with a deep dive exercise to meet stringent engineering demands keeping in mind the cost competitiveness. Each application on the U-Truck demanded extensive design exercises for optimum suspension integration, brake performance, torque capability and load carrying capacities. Meritor successfully integrated various customizations locally to meet the design objectives of the U-Truck program.
It was an uphill task for Meritor to meet the aggressive timeline for prototypes, to develop various new interfacing components and meeting the cost targets. All these obstacles were overcome amidst frequent design changes arising out of concurrent and continuous improvements, accelerated product testing requirements and the need for rapid localization.
Meritor was able to meet the stringent goals through a close interaction between the Engineering and Project Management teams of the two organizations.
Meritor’s rich experience in local application requirements, established service network and a renewed focus on aftermarket assistance, will provide unparallel support to the U-Truck program right from the factory floor to the Indian roads.
